One of the most exciting things about working at AXA Equitable is the number of opportunities there are within the company – it is absolutely a company where you can build a career. I, myself, joined AXA Equitable eight years ago, and in that time have had multiple roles.  The ability to grow and shape my career, along with a strong commitment to the purpose of the Life Insurance industry, is part of what has kept me at AXA Equitable.  Follow NYU Wasserman center’s Twitter feed, @NYUWassEmployer, on March 1st as Nicole Pesce gives a first-hand look at what it means to work at AXA Equitable and what it means to work for a company committed to building talent from within.

I joined AXA Equitable in 2005 to launch our Strategic Initiatives Group and later that year also took on the responsibilities of chief operating officer for AXA Advisors, an affiliate of AXA Equitable and our retail distribution arm (AXA Advisors, LLC, member SIPC).  Today, I am president of AXA Equitable and have responsibility for the company’s Financial Protection & Wealth Management business, including life insurance manufacturing, marketing, distribution and in-force management.   While my primary focus is on growing our US business, I also take advantage of working for a subsidiary of one of the world’s largest global insurers through my position on AXA Group’s Global Life and Savings board, which allows me to work with colleagues around the globe.  I am proud to say that I am not the only example of talent built from within AXA Equitable.  At AXA Equitable, we realize that our most valuable asset is our people and we are committed to making sure that we provide an environment where top talent can truly build a career.

Nicole is another example of talent built from within. Her career at AXA Equitable began in August 2007 when she joined the At Retirement® team, a division of the firm that concentrates on understanding and meeting the retirement needs of the Baby Boomer generation.  Since then, Nicole has focused on leading two main initiatives as part of AXA Advisors.  Through the Education & Advice Program of AXA Private Markets, a division of AXA Advisors, Nicole is part of a team that partners with corporate clients to deliver educational workshops to employees and offer them the opportunity to meet with financial professionals.  Nicole has also launched the first social media program aimed at helping AXA Advisors financial professionals use LinkedIn and Facebook to stay in touch with their clients and online communities. Nicole graduated from Rutgers University in 2003 with a BA in History/French. In 2009, she completed the Global Professional’s MBA with concentrations in Finance and Accounting from Fordham University.

Social Media Week Highlight: Twitter

Twitter has over 500 million registered users and More than 50% of active Twitter users follow companies, brands, or products on social networks. 57% of all companies that use social media for business use Twitter.
Twitter is a vital and innovative tool for your career search! Some things to remember when using twitter for your search:
  1. Keep your profile picture and background appropriate and professional. Some people create two different twitter accounts one professional and one personal. Make sure your professional account promotes careers interests. Share articles and links from leaders and employers in your field, retweet company posts, and use industry-related hashtags. Whether you’re interested in graphic design, Medieval art history, or financial risk management, you’re sure to find someone who can share information with you!
  2. Pay it forward! As much as Twitter can be a resource for you, remember that it is first and foremost an information exchange community. Remember to tag handles and hashtags from previous tweets – think of this as Twitter citations. By tagging companies and professionals, you are engaging and interacting in material that improves their brand – and yours.
  3. Save your searches. Twitter allows you to save specific hashtag searches into lists. Keep track of changes in areas of interest by checking in on these hashtags. You can also view your Twitter feed through the list feature and look at all relevant posts, allowing you to seek more information based on your career interests.
  4. Follow companies and employers. More and more organizations are featuring jobs through a click or a tweet. An organization’s Twitter feed is a great way to learn about company culture, organization changes, a company’s contributions to latest trends, and daily updates.
  5. If you reference other social media profiles in your feed, make sure they are updated. Twitter’s “quick-click” approach makes accessing information incredibly efficient and easy. Make sure your LinkedIn, Facebook, and other platforms are up to date.

Telling Your Global Story: Learn how to highlight your global experiences to prospective employers

Study away programs provide students with the incredible opportunity to add an entirely new perspective to both academic and career goals. This event will unveil the strengths of studying away for your career, and how prospective employers view these experiences.

Whether you are in attendance, or at home, it’s a “must see” and “must read” event for anyone with a study away experience under his or her belt, or on the horizon.

As NYU continues to define itself as a Global Network University, studying away is at the heart of this amazing global community.
